It would be so awesome if Google would merger with RIM (Blackberry)

Dear Eric Schmidt (Google CEO):

Please buy RIM.  Seriously.  Do your shareholders – and the entire world – a huge favor.  Lead Google into the merger of the decade.    Be remembered as the guy who made the awesomest business acquisition ever at a time when that acquired company’s share price was so ridiculously low.

If you are learning a foreign language, then you should be READING in it

In an earlier post, I discussed how practicing speaking a foreign language is a much better practice activity than simply watching TV/movies, since the former provides the learner with an adjustable pace, a stronger incentive to pay attention, and a greater chance of receiving corrective feedback.  Well, there is another underrated activity that is also more effective than television: reading. New iPhone App Applies Brain Science to Building Your Vocabulary

Rather than dressing up vocab-building as a goofy “game”, GRE Vocab Genius uses an optimized flashcard repetition algorithm to help the serious learner get serious results. The app quickly rose to #1 educational app during its first week on iTunes.

NEW YORK– With no promotion or marketing, the GRE Vocabulary Genius app, by New York-based ed-tech startup Brainscape, saw over 20,000 downloads within its first two weeks on iTunes.  The company is understandably pleased, as this first product release was merely a test run for upcoming releases of several dozen new apps based on Brainscape’s innovative mobile learning platform.
