Flashcards in 1/26/17 lecture: non adaptive evolution Deck (9):
1

fitness

measure of genetic representation in next generation, measured through relative fitness - phenotypes, relative to each other, how much goes into next generation relative to other ones

2

highest one's fitness is what value

1

3

allele frequency

how each freuqency changes over time

4

forces of microevolution

selection, mutation, small pop size - genetic drift, migration - geneflow

5

microevolution

change in different versions (allel) of gene frequencies of a population

6

selection

predictable, repeatable

7

mutation

significance: produces differnt versions of gene (codes info - DNA) - change sequence of gene
produces new version of gene at random
changes gene into new version of gene - doesnt really affect population, not strong evolutionary force

8

types of mutation

substitution, insertion, deletion

9

genetic drift

sampling smaller smaples are less likely to be representative - unrepresentative
