In trying to gain independence from Britain the 2nd Continental Congress established a Continental Navy. On 13OCT1775 continental congress outfitted 2 sailing vessels armed with ten carriage guns, and swivel guns, and manned by crews of 80 to intercept British ships carrying supplies.

101.7 Discuss the conditions that led to the creation of Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Navy Divers

EOD - June 1941 veterans that worked with the British Unexploded Orandance teams formed the 1st class of the Mine Recovery School. From 1941-45 19 classes graduated and deployed throughout the pacific and Mediterranian theaters. First called Mobile Explosive Investigative Units. Later renamed EOD. 
Navy Divers -Divers date back to middle of the 19th century and have been used to repair ships, construction work, and military operations. During the 1900s the submarine program was in rapid development and it was marred by series of accidents which resulted in rapid growth of Navy Divers. The first US Navy Diving Manual and the establishment of the Navy Diving School
