Q

What are the physical properties of ionic compounds?

A
  1. High melting and boiling point
    - Contains large numbers of ions, a lot of energy needed to overcome this ionic bonding
  2. Brittle
    - When you hit or drop an ionic crystal, the layers of ions shift.
    - This can cause ions with the same charge to line up next to each other (like positive next to positive).
    - Like charges repel, so the crystal shatters or breaks easily.
