Q

Caps and Lims of Radars:

AN/SPS-67

A

PRIMARY SURFACE/LOW SLOW FLYER SEARCH RADAR. THE AN/SPS-67 IS THE PRINCIPAL SURFACE SEARCH RADAR FOR DDG-51 CLASS DESTROYERS CONTROLLED FROM CIC.

IT IS A TWO-DIMENSIONAL G-BAND RADAR THAT DETECTS AND TRACKS SURFACE TARGETS AND LOW-FLYING AIRCRAFT AT RANGES FROM 75 YARDS OUT TO 100 NM. IT UTLIZES SHORT, MEDIUM AND LONG PULSE SETTINGS AND TWO MODES OF OPERATION:

a. NAVIGATION MODE: THE NAVIGATION MODE IS INTENDED FOR USE WHEN PILOTING NEAR LAND, WHERE RANGE ACCURACY IS ESSENTIAL TO NAVIGATIONAL ACCURACY AND IS NORMALLY SET TO 30 RPM.

b. SEARCH MODE: A SEARCH MODE IS EMPLOYED FOR NORMAL SURFACE SEARCH AND TRACKING. THIS MODE PROVIDES EXTENDED RANGE WITH SOME SACRIFICE IN ACCURACY AND IS NORMALLY SET TO 15 RPM.

Q

Data Links and Networks:

UHF/HF LINK 11

A

LINK 11 IS THE EXCHANGE OF NEAR REAL-TIME TACTICAL DATA AMONG UNITS OF THE FORCE THAT SUPPORTS THE EXCHANGE OF AIR, SURFACE, AND SUB-SURFACE SURVEILLANCE INFORMATION, WEAPON CONTROL, INTELLIGENCE AND ELECTRONIC WARFARE INFORMATION.

LINK 11 IS HALF DUPLEX AND EMPLOYS NETTED COMMUNICATION TECHNIQUES USING STANDARD MESSAGE FORMAT

Q

Data Links and Networks:

UHF LINK 16

A

LINK 16 TERMINAL IMPLEMENTS THE TACTICAL DIGITAL INFORMATION LINK-J (LINK-16) MESSAGE STANDARD.

ITS ARCHITECTURE PROVIDES A COMMON COMMUNICATIONS NET TO A LARGE COMMUNITY OF AIRBORNE AND SURFACE ELEMENTS WITHIN LINE-OF-SIGHT (LOS).

BY USING ONE OR MORE MEMBERS OF THE NET AS RELAYS, THE NET CAN BE EXTENDED TO PLATFORMS BEYOND LINE-OF-SIGHT, THUS ANY TERMINAL CAN BE EMPLOYED AS A RELAY.

THE SYSTEM OPERATES ON A TIME SLOT BASIS AND IS CAPABLE OF TRANSMITTING AND RECEIVING INFORMATION ON MULTIPLE NETS.

Q

Data Links and Networks:

SATELLITE TADIL J

A

UHF SATCOM THAT OFFERS THE POTENTIAL TO EXTEND THE LINK-16 NETWORK TO SHIPS THAT ARE OUT OF LOS, EXTENDING THE RANGE-LIMITED TACTICAL NETWORKS TO BEYOND LOS WHILE REDUCING THEIR DEPENDENCE UPON RELAY PLATFORMS AND IS THE SECONDARY BMD LINK.
