Flashcards in 2. Movement Analysis Deck (23):
1

What is a first class lever?

The fulcrum is in the centre
The effort is on the right
The load is on the left

2

Give a sporting example for a first class lever

Throwing a rugby ball

3

What is a second class lever?

The fulcrum is at a side
The load is in the middle
The effort is the furthest away from the fulcrum

4

Give an example of a second class lever

Pushing a wheelbarrow
Doing a push-up

5

What is a third class lever?

The fulcrum is at a side
The effort is in the middle
The load is on the other end, furthest from the fulcrum

6

Give an example of a third class lever

Canoeing or paddling a boat

7

What does 123FLE stand for

The class names and which thing is in the middle. For example 1 is the first class, and F is the fulcrum, meaning it is in the middle

8

What can the load also be known as?

Resistance

9

What is mechanical advantage?

When the effort arm is longer than its load arm, it has a high mechanical advantage

10

What is the effort arm?

The distance from the fulcrum to the effort

11

What is the load arm?

The distance from the fulcrum to the effort

12

What type of mechanical advantage does a third class lever have?

Low mechanical advantage as the effort arm is the shortest

13

Do first class levers have a high or low mechanical advantage?

They can have either a high or low mechanical advantage. If the fulcrum is slightly more towards the load, it has a high mechanical advantage, and if it is slightly towards the effort, it has a low mechanical advantage

14

What are the seven basic movements?

Flexion
Extension
Abduction
Adduction
Dorsiflexion
Plantar flexion
Rotation

15

What is flexion? Give an example

When the angle of the bones at a joint decreases
E.g. Bending the leg to kick a ball

16

What is extension? Give an example

When the angle of the bones at a joint increases
E.g. The leg after kicking a ball

17

What is abduction? Give an example

The movement of a limb away from the midline of the body
E.g. The arms when performing a star jumo

18

What is adduction? Give an example

When a limb moves closer to the midline of the body
E.g. The arms after a star jump

19

What is dorsiflexion? Give an example

Takes place at an ankle joint when the foot moves upwards. The angle from the back of the leg and the middle of the foot is greater
E.g. Performing a squat

20

What is plantar flexion? Give an example

When the foot flexes downwards. The angle from the back of the leg to the centre of the foot is smaller
E.g. Jumping

21

What is rotation? Give an example

Where one part of the body moves, but the rest of the body stays still
E.g. Throwing a ball in cricket

22

Name the planes

Frontal
Sagittal
Transverse

23

Name the types of axis

Sagittal
Longitudinal
Transverse
