A

While conversing, South Americans like closeness whereas North Americans prefer a space when conversing. South Americans feel uneasy to talk at a distance while North Americans prefer a space while conversing. This underlines the behavior of two distinct groups from different regions while conversing.

A

Culture determines to a large extent one’s thoughts and feelings. Culture directs one’s actions and perception about life. Very often, culture is taken for granted because it turns to be too integral of one’s personality such that one is more aware of it.

Culture defines acceptable and appropriate ways of behaving for members of a particular group. Considering this definition, what is considered to be normal and acceptable in one culture might be abnormal and incorrect in another.

A

Such action will be perceived as boastful since it reveals the ignorance of others. It will be seen as an attempt to undermine their confidence away and to ridicule them. It is incorrect to answer a question unless the respondent is sure of the answer.

A

It appears that silence and passiveness are admired and encouraged. Therefore a white American teacher who is unfamiliar with this culture may interpret the behaviour of Sioux Indians as being hostile, stupid and a reflection of ignorance.

What can you say about problems within a society?

A

Every society has its own problems to solve and has its own solution for its problem; the solutions are culturally determined and can be regarded as unacceptable by members of other societies.
