Asylum Seeker - someone who has applied for refugee status and is still awaiting the decision
Refugee - someone who flees a country due to being persecuted for their race, religion, nationality, or social group
Smuggling - the use by migrants of smugglers to cross over border without authorisation
Trafficking - the exploitation of vulnerable workers through deceit or coercion
Patterns of International Refugees
Area - move from insecure to secure; e.g. war to no war - Syria to Egypt 11 million since 2011,
Distance Decay; when they move move to closest countries - cheaper fewer obstacles e.g. 80% of refugee from Syria have gone to a neighbouring country; Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Turkey
Time - huge number of people move all at one - pulse movement

LICS/MICs - HICS
- movement from poorer to richer in the hope for economic benefit
- remittance
HICs to HICs
- 1 million UK residents living in Australia

- decreased in recent years
- men for LICs more so
- women work in service sector men work in labour
