Biceps femoris

Two heads femur

A, O, I

Origin or proximal attachment:
Long head - ischial tuberosity
Short head - linea aspera

Insertion or distal attachment: head of the fibula

Action
Long head- extend the hip and flex the knee
Short head - flex the knee

Biceps femoris is the lateral hamstring, the two medial hamstrings will be covered later

Named for its number of heads and origin

1

Linea aspera

Rough line

A protruding line found on the posterior portion of the shaft of the femur.

2

Head of the fibula

Round like portion on the top of the bone

3

Digestive system

Structures

Mouth
Pharynx (throat)
Esophagus
Stomach
Intestines
Small
Large
Rectum, anus

4

Digestive system structures

Accessory organs (5)

Help with digestion

Teeth
Salivary glands
Liver
Gall bladder
Pancreas

5

Digestive system

Functions (4)

- Ingest
- Physical & chemical breakdown of food
- Absorb nutrients
- Elimination of waste

6

Exocrine gland

Secrete their products into ducts

- into the body cavities,
- lumen (opening) of organs or
- (free) surface of the body

Examples: sweat, ear wax, mucous

7

Coronal plane

Divides the body into front and back

Also known as frontal plane

Movements that occur in the coronal plane are abduction and adduction

8

Abduction

Moving away from the body

Away from the midline

Movement in coronal plane

ABduction

9

Adduction

Movement toward the midline

ADduction

10

Body cavities

Two major cavities

Ventral & dorsal

11

Ventral (front) cavity

Two divisions

Thoracic and abdominopelvic

12

Thoracic subdivisions

Right pleural cavities (lungs)
Left pleural cavities (lungs)
Mediastinum cavities
Pericardial cavities

13

Abdominopelvic cavity subdivisions

Upper: abdominal cavity
Lower: pelvic cavity

14

Dorsal cavity sections

Cranial cavity
Spinal cavity

15

Diaphragm

Define

Separates the thoracic cavity from the abdominopelvic cavity

Dividing line between the two ventral cavities

16

Mediastinum cavity

Define

Contents

The center cavity of the thoracic cavity

Contains:

The heart (pericardial cavity)
Trachea &. Right/left bronchi
Esophagus
Thymus
Blood vessels (specific)
Lymphatic vessels
Nerves (phrenic/vagus)

17

Abdominal cavity contains

Liver
Gall bladder
Pancreas
Stomach
Spleen
Intestines
Kidneys
Ureters

18

Lower abdominal or pelvic cavity

Contains

Urinary bladder
Reproductive organs
Lower portion of large intestines (sigmoid colon & rectum)

19

Spinal cavity

Contains

Contains the spinal cord

20

Cranial cavity

Contains

Contains the brain
