In the 50’s it was considered a norm to smoke

As knowledge of the health implications grew, peoples views changed

It is now illegal in certain areas like the work place as a result of the HEALTH ACT 2006

It used to be illegal to be gay

Changing views meant it became considered a human right

Decriminalised in 1967


Societies changing views on women’s rights

Women weren’t allowed to vote until 1928

Suffragette movement helped change

Recent developments include:

1970 Equal pay act
1975 Sex discrimination act
