what is meant by ‘an alternative method of service’?

service by either a different method or to a different location to that prescribed under the CPR
i.e. text message, voicemail message, delivery to D’s partner

when is alternative service permissible?
A
generally, with the court’s permission
however, C can serve pursuant to the terms of a contract or on D’s agent (subject to conditions being met) without permission

when will the court grant permission for alternative service?
A
there must be ‘good reason’ to make the order i.e. it is likely to be brought to the attention of D
