The Second Amendment
Protects the rights to maintain a militia and of the citizens to bear arms.
The First Amendment
Guarantees freedoms of religion, speech, assembly, and press, and the right of people to petition the government.
The Third Amendment
Restricts quartering of troops in private homes.
The Fourth Amendment
Protects against “unreasonable searches and seizures”
The Fifth Amendment
Assures the right to not be deprived of “life, liberty, or property, without due process of the law.” Government seizure of property without just compensation.
4 important protections for people accused of crimes.
1.) can’t be on trial w/out sufficient evidence.
2.) can’t be tried again.
3.) can’t testify against themselves.

The Sixth Amendment
Guarantees the right to a speedy and public trial by an impartial trial.
The Seventh Amendment
Assures the right to a jury trial in cases involving the common law. Be able to settle all disputes about property worth more than $20.
The Eighth Amendment
Prohibits excessive bail and cruel and unusual punishment.
The Ninth Amendment
Provides that people’s rights are not restricted to those specified in Amendments 1-8.
The Tenth Amendment
Confirms that the people and states have rights that the national government may not assume.
The Eleventh Amendment
Removed cases in which a state was sued without the consent from the federal courts.
The Twelfth Amendment
Required presidential electors to vote separately for the president and the vice-president.
The Thirteenth Amendment
Abolished slavery and authorized Congress to pass legislation implementing it’s abolition.

Grants citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the United States.

Grants the African Americans males to vote, by outlawing the denial of the right to vote on the basis of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.
