Anatomy 8 Flashcards
(16 cards)
The cerebellum is the main center for contralateral muscle coordination and body equilibrium ?
F
Ipsilateral
The cerebellum receives continuous information from ?
Motor»_space;> motor cortex
Proprioceptive information (sense of position and movement of body parts in space) >>> the skeletal muscles, tendons, and joints.
equilibrium»_space;> the inner ear through CN #8
The cerebellum compares the information received from the motor cortex with information received from the sensory receptors if detect any error in muscular activity, it can correct this error through indirect pathways to the lower motor neurons in the spinal cord ……thus it maintains ?
muscle coordination and body equilibrium.
Where is gross anatomy of cerebellum .
It is situated in the posterior cranial fossa, beneath the tentorium cerebelli and behind the pons and medulla
What is separated cerebellum from pons & medulla?
fourth ventricle
Cerebellum connected to brain stem by ?
Superior cerebellar peduncles : mid brain
Middle cerebellar peduncles : pons
Inferior cerebellar peduncles : medulla oblongata
Cerebellum Makes Only 10 % total volume of the brain but
more than half of all its neurons.

External Surface of Cerebellum
It is formed of two cerebellar hemispheres joined by a median narrow part; the vermis.
• Cerebellar surface is divided by numerous curve transverse fissures giving it a laminated appearance.
• A deep fissure; the horizontal fissure, lies along the margin of the cerebellum and separates the superior from the inferior surface.
Internal Structure of Cerebellum
Outer gray matter called cerebellar cortex, extensively folded forming folia.
• Inner white matter showing distinctive treelike
pattern called Arbor vitae (In latin “tree of life”)»_space;>
It brings sensory and motor sensation to and from cerebellum
4 pairs of nuclei within white ma 4 pairs of nuclei within white m
4 Nuclei on each side, from medial to lateral
Fastigial Nuclei
Globose Nucleus
Emboliform Nucleus
Dentate Nucleus
Constitute the primary source of efferent fibers from the cerebellum to the other part of the brain.

Anatomical Lobes of Cerebellum
The cerebellum is divided into three main lobes: the anterior lobe, the middle lobe and the flocculonodular lobe
The anterior lobe
The anterior lobe can be seen on the superior surface. It is separated from the posterior lobe by a wide V- shaped fissure called the primary fissure
The posterior (middle) lobe
The posterior (middle) lobe, which is the largest part of the cerebellum, is situated between the primary and posterolateral fissure.
The flocculonodular lobe
The flocculonodular lobe is situated posterior to the posterolateral fissure.
Which is separated between lobes ?
Posterior lobe between tow fissure ?
Anterior from posterior»_space;> primary fissure
Posterior lobe situated between the primary and posterolateral fissure.
Posterior from flocculonodular»_space;> posterolateral fissure.
