Thoracolumbar Fascia
Iliac Crest of the Ilium
Ribs 9-12 lateral to their angle
Latissimus Dorsi Lateral Attachment
Floor of the intertubecular sulcus on the anterior side of the humerus
(sometimes, the inferior angle of the scapula)
Latissimus Dorsi Action
Medial Rotation
Extension
Adduction
Also helps with respiration
Latissimus Dorsi Innervation
Thoracodorsal Nerve (on the anterior surface next to its lateral attachment)
Latissimus Dorsi Blood Supply
Thoracodorsal Artery (on the anterior surface near its lateral attachment)
Rhomboid Major Medial Attachments
Spinous Processes of T2-T5
Rhomboid Major Lateral Attachments
Medial Border of the Scapula below the level of the spine of the scapula
Rhomboid Major Action
Retracts Scapula
Rotates Scapula to depress the glenoid cavity
Hold close to the thoracic wall
Rhomboid Major Innervation
Dorsal Scapular Nerve (courses parallel to the medial border of the scapula)
Rhomboid Major Blood Supply
Dorsal Scapular Artery (branches directly from subclavian)
(Potentially arterial supply could branch from transverse cervical artery, therefore the artery for this muscle would be the deep branch of the transverse cervical artery)
Rhomboid Minor Medial Attachment
Spinous Processes of C7-T1
Nuchal Ligament
Rhomboid Minor Lateral Attachment
Medial Border of the Scapula at the level of the spine of the scapula
Rhomboid Minor Action
Retracts the Scapula
Rotates the scapula to depress the glenoid cavity
hold the scapula close to the thoracic wall
Rhomboid Minor Innervation
Dorsal Scapular Nerve (courses parallel to the medial border of the scapula)
Rhomboid Minor Blood Supply
Dorsal Scapular Artery (may branch directly from subclavian)
(if arterial supply branches from transverse cervical artery, than arterial supply will be from the deep branch of the transverse cervical artery)
Levator Scapulae Superior Attachment
Transverse Processes of the upper cervical vertebrae ( C1-C4)
Levator Scapulae Inferior Attachment
Superior Angle of the Scapula
Levator Scapulae Action
Elevates the Scapula
Rotates the scapula to depress the glenoid cavity
Levator Scapulae Innervation
Dorsal Scapular Nerve (passes anterior to the inferior end and deep to muscle)
Levator Scapulae Blood Supply
Dorsal Scapular Artery (pass anterior to the inferior end and deep to the muscle)
Serratus Posterior Superior Medial Attachment
Nuchal Ligament
Spinous Processes of C7-T3
Serratus Posterior Superior Lateral Attachments
Superior borders of ribs 2-5 lateral to their angles
Serratus Posterior Superior Action
Respiratory Muscle (elevates the upper ribs)
Serratus Posterior Superior Innervation

Serratus Posterior Superior Blood Supply
Intercostal Arteries
Serratus Posterior Inferior Medial Attachment
Spinous Processes of T11-L2
Serratus Posterior Inferior Lateral Attachments
