What is a bacterial disease in plants?

-Ring rot.

-Affect tobacco plants and tomatoes.
-Damages leave and fruit.
-No cure, but resistant crops available.

-Potato blight.

-Affect potatoes and tomatoes.
-Penetrate host cells and destroy leaves and fruit.
-No cure, but resistant crops and chemical treatments.

-Black sigatoka.

What does black sigatoka do?

-Affects bananas.
-Destroys leaves and turns them black.
-No cure, but resistant crops, good husbandry and fungicide.

What is a bacterial animal disease?

-Tuberculosis.

What does TB do?

-Affect humans, cows, badgers etc.
-Cause by Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
-Damage lung tissue and suppresses immune system.
-Curable with antibiotics and preventable with vaccinations.

What is a viral animal disease?

-Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV/AIDS).

What does HIV/AIDS do?

-Caused by HIV.
-Targets T helper cells in immune system and destroys immune system gradually.
-Passed by unprotected sex, shared needles, pregnancy.
-No vaccine and no cure.

What does malaria do?

-Caused by Plasmodium and spread by bites of Anopheles mosquitoes.
-Parasite has two hosts, mosquitoes and people.
-Parasite reproduce in female mosquito which need two blood meals before laying eggs then passes on to humans.
-Invades red blood cells, liver and brain.
-No vaccine but, preventative measures like insecticides, door screens and protective clothing available.

What is a fungal animal disease?

-Athlete's foot.

What does athlete's foot do?

-Caused by Tinia peda.
-Digests warm and moist skin between toes.
-Cause cracking and itchiness.
-Antifungal creams.
