A

Expresses a preposition, made up of modal verb ‘would’ + the.= inf verb with ‘to’.

ie: I would like sushi for dinner, I would live in London if I could afford it.

A

Describes a hypothetical situation.
ie: if I were you, I would be careful-> hypothetical because I am not you!

Describes the main action of the clause: eats, sleeps, runs Sam runs to school.

Verb, helps main verb of the sentence: do, be Can, might ,will= modal aux verb. ie: I AM bored-> auxiliary She MAY WALK the dog-> aux and main.

Links the subject to noun/adj that complements subject. Most common Copular = ‘is’ ie: The food TASTES amazing-> food= subject, tastes=copular, amazing=adj

Actions that can start and end: shout and hit Can be material or verbal

Concerned with events. Anna DROVE to work. Eddy MELTED the butter in the pan.

I walk, you walk, she walks etc. Ie: Jenny loves Paul, we swim at the beach

Action that’s happening now and will continue to happen/unfinished action. ie: They are running for the bus, Patrick is doing his homework.

She WAS EATING at the restaurant, they WERE FILMING for three hours.

Action already happened before something else happened. ie: She HAD DECIDED to quit her job. you HAVE WORKED too many shifts.

Describing action that was continuous,now done. ie: I HAD BEEN TRYING to lose weight, the children HAD BEEN SKATING many times before.

Link the noun to the clause. Include: who,what,where. ie: Cigarettes WHICH are bad for your help are v expensive.

Direct attention to something. ie: This is the car Clara owns.

Used when there’s something specific. ie:we are going for a drive in THE 🚗, open THE 🚪 please,

Used for something more general (like ‘a’) ie: Can you pick up A carrot from the shops?

Determiners that are specific, display a quantity. ie: I have LOTS OF friends,Henry the 8th had SIX wives.

How do coordinating conjunctions work?
Join 2 of the same clause together. Ie: I love her FOR she is pretty. For And Nor But OR Yet So

What’s a subordinating conjunction?
Join main clause and subordinate clause. ie: until,because,therefore,even though. Ie: I liked Patrick before he broke my heart.

Action going to happen in future. Ie: I’m going on holiday next week.

Action that’s continuous, will be completed in future. ie: He WILL HAVE BEEN watching the news closely, Calvin WILL BE debating for the team.
