Performance management

- The system used to improve organisational, functional and individual performance through linking objectives

Performance appraisal

- Measures the performance of an employee doing this job
- Provides feedback and establishes plans to improve performance

- When the business forces an employee to leave

- Retrenchment
- Dismissal

Retrenchment

- Occurs to employee when employment is terminated due to a job becoming redundant
- Means no longer sufficient work for employee to perform

Fair Work Commission (FWC)

- Australia's national workplace relations tribunal
- The role of this is to maintain a fair and productive workplace between employees and employers

Dismissal

- Contract of employee is terminated due to incompetence or indiscipline
- Employee can seek compensation or be reinstated if business doesn’t follow the legal procedures (through FWC)

Entitlement

- What an employee can receive once an employment relationship ends
- This can include remuneration, accrued annual leave and long service leave
- Depends on years work and what’s on their collective agreement

Transition issues

- The problems employees have when they are leaving the business
- Whether to another job (outplacement) or to retirement (superannuation, pension etc.)

- Specialised assistance give to retrenched employees to help find a job with other businesses
