What is the origin of the hypoglossal nerve?
The medulla oblongata in the brainstem.
What does the hypoglossal nerve supply?
Motor fibers to the muscles of the tongue for speech and swallowing.
What is the origin of the right common carotid artery?
Brachiocephalic trunk.
What is the origin of the left common carotid artery?
Aortic arch.
What major areas does the common carotid artery supply?
Head and neck.
What are the terminal branches of the external carotid artery?
Superficial temporal artery.
What major areas does the facial artery supply?
Face: lips, nose, cheeks, chin.
What does the middle meningeal artery supply?
Dura mater (especially lateral skull, meninges).
What areas does the maxillary artery supply?
Deep face structures: maxilla, mandible, teeth, nasal cavity, dura mater.
What is the origin of the vertebral artery?
Subclavian artery.
What areas does the lingual artery supply?
Tongue, floor of mouth.
What is the location of the inferior sagittal sinus?
Runs along lower edge of falx cerebri (in brain).
What is the internal jugular vein a continuation of?
Sigmoid sinus at jugular foramen.
Where does the transverse sinus originate?
Horizontal groove in occipital bone.
What does the facial vein drain?
Face (cheeks, lips, eyelids) into internal jugular vein.
What does the superior sagittal sinus drain?
Cerebral cortex, scalp; drains into transverse sinus.
What is the sigmoid sinus a continuation of?
Transverse sinus.
What does the sigmoid sinus drain into?
Internal jugular vein.
