Tactics at brush fires

A

Avoid hooking up to hydrant s except to protect exposures
  3. Once exposures covered the fire attack can begin
    Attack when wind diminishes
  4. Consider wetting down unburned area ahead
5 in general avoid attacking from front of fire
  5. If necessary to operate in front of fire ( for life) sufficient lines in place
  6. Attack fire from flanks
  7. Extinguish from flanks first then move to interior burning areas
  8. Streams should be directed at burning brush not at the flames burning above the brush
  9. Bypass stumps and trees until fire under control
10 advance through burnt out areas to attack fire
24

Have units positioned on streets at top of hill to protect exposures but attack the fire from bottom of hill and work upward

27
Q

Engine ops at brush fires

A
  1. Initial alarm should concentrate on exposure protection
  2. Fire attack begin when exposures covered
  3. Heavy reliance On Indian pumps brooms and booster lines from BFUs
  4. Stretching lines big commitment
28
Q

Ladder ops at brush fires

A
  1. Anticipate operating in teams using Indian pumps brooms
  2. Wait till wind not gusting to use Indian pumps only 5 gallons
