Flashcards in B1 Deck (12):
20 micrometers in mm and nm
0.02mm and 20000nm
Name parts of animal cell
What do each part of animal cell do?
Ribosomes - makes the protein needed for cell
Nucleus - controls the cell
Cell membrane - allows things in and out of cell
Mitochondria - where respiration takes place in cell
Cytoplasm - where the chemical reactions take place
Name parts of plant cell
A permanent vacuole
Functions of parts in plant cell (not the ones also in animal)
Chloroplasts- contains chlorophyll which allows photosynthesis to take place
Permanent vacuole- contains cell sap keeping cell structure strong
Cell wall- keeps structure in place and strong
What is osmosis?
Going from a high to low concentration passing through a partially permeable membrane, in other words concentrated to dilute
In diffusion net movement = ?
Net movement = particles moving in - particles moving out
Adaptations of root hair cell
Greatly increased surface area available for water to move into cell
Large permanent vacuole speeds up movement of water by osmosis from soil to root hair cell
Many mitochondria to transfer energy needed for active transport of mineral ions into root hair cells
Muscle cell adaptations
Contain special proteins that slide over each other making the fibres contract
Contain many mitochondria to transfer energy needed for chemical reactions that take place as cell contracts and relaxes
Store glycogen, can be used for cellular respiration by mitochondria to transfer the energy to contract
What are prokaryotes?
Single celled organisms (bacteria)
What are eukaryotes?
Have a cell membrane, cytoplasm and genetic material enclosed in nucleus
