Flashcards in B2 Deck (16):
What is the role of the nucleus?
The nucleus controls the activities of the cell
What is the role of the cytoplasm?
The cytoplasm is where most of the chemical reactions of the cell take place
What is the roll of mitochondria?
The mitochondria are where most energy is released in respiratiom
What is the role of the cell membrane?
The cell membrane controls the passage of substances into and out of the cell.
Role of the cell wall
The cell wall of plant cells strengthens the cell
What happens at the ribosomes?
Ribosomes are where protein synthesis takes place
What is the permanent vacuole?
The permanent vacuole is found in plant cells and contains cell sap.
What are chloroplasts?
Chloroplasts are found in plant cells, they absorb light energy to make glucose in photosynthesis.
Main parts of a bacterial cell
Bacterial cells have a cytoplasm, a cell membrane and a cell wall. They do not have a nucleus.
How do dissolved substances move in and out of cells?
Dissolved substances move in and out of cells by diffusion
Definition of diffusion
Diffusion is the spreading of particles from a area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
What is the definition of a tissue?
A tissue is a group of cells with a similar structure and function
What is the definition of an organ?
An organ contains different tissues working together to carry out a function
Where does digestion take place?
Digestion takes place in the stomach and small intestine
What is the word equation for photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide + water ------> Oxygen + Glucose
