A

A single soldiers experience of a charge towards Enemy lines, describes his thoughts and actions
His emotions are over rid by fear , replacing patriotic ideals that he held before the violence began

A

Enhancement caesura and lines of uneven length. Creates an irregular rhythm.

“Threw up a yellow hare rolled like a flame”- simile here emphasises the soldiers frantic movements that imitate a hare
“Patriotic tear” - figurative language to show his patriotism has condensed into fear and pain
A rifle numb as a smashed arm- violent imagery suggests his rifle is useless and foreshadows he will be punished for that later on . Numbness mirroring how he feels ? Alone with the rifle
