Duke of Norfolk was sent to carry out a brutal suppression of the rebels. the rebels who attacked Carlisle were hanged, and 144 rebels at least from the pilgrimage of grace were executed including Aske, Thomas Percy, Bigod, and Hussey.
who supported the rebellion?
powerful members of the nobility including, Thomas and Henry Percy, Lord Hussey and Lord Darcy. - the Percy family had many estates and were powerful therefore their tenants also joined.
clergy men and monks were also crucial - 38 clergy men and 16 priests were executed.
