Biodiversity and Conservation Flashcards
(9 cards)
What are the three types of Biodiversity?
Species Diversity, Genetic Diversity, Ecosystem Diversity
Why is Biodiversity Inportent?
Because it helps grow and produce nutrients for a habitat.
What are the direct and indirect values of biodiversity
Indirect is obtained through non removable products in nature (Ex; sunset, waterfall)
Direct is obtained through removeble products (Ex; timber, fish, water)
How is the current extinction rate different from the background extinction
That it is about what is going on, now, but background is about what goes on over time.
What are the threats to Biodiversity?
Destruction of habitat, Overexploitation, polution, Fragmentaion of ecosystem, Introduced spieces.
What are two classes of natural recourses
One class is renewable resources and non reneweble
How can the decline of a singles species affect and entire ecosystem
It will start a chain recation and it can cause a mass extinction of animals
What are the methods used to conserve biodiversity
The method is help corridor between habitats and also biodiversity hotspots
What are two techniques used to restore biodiversity?
One is bioremdemnation which uses living organisms and another is biological augmentaion which can help you deal with preditors.
