Q

What’s the main purpose of epithelial tissue?

A

Epithelial tissue creates order and structure by lining and covering things.

They also secrete, absorb, and sense

16
Q

Instead of fibers like other connective tissue, blood has…

A

proteins dissolved in the plasma. They can form fibers when they’re needed for clotting.

17
Q

What do all types of connective tissue develop from?

18
Q

What are the types of dense connective tissue?

A

There are three kinds of dense connective tissue:

regular

irregular

elastic

19
Q

What are the types of connective tissue?

A

There are four types of connective tissue:

Proper

Cartilage

Bone

Blood

20
Q

What are the types of loose connective tissue?

A

There are three types of loose connective tissue:

areolar

reticular

adipose

21
Q

What are the components of most connective tissue?

A

There are three components of most connective tissue:

fibers

ground substance

cells

(Note that blood and lymph, for example, don’t have fibers.)

22
Q

Three types of cells in blood

A

Red cells (erythrocytes)

White (leukocytes)

Platelets (cell fragments that aid in clotting)

23
Q

What factor marks the difference between loose and dense connective tissues?

A

The difference between loose and dense connective tissue is in the ratio of ground substance to fibrous tissue.

Dense has:

more fibrous material

fewer cells

less ground substance.

24
Q

What type of tissue is a macrophage?

A

Macrophage is a type of white blood cell, and therefore connective tissue.

25
What do -blast cells secrete?
Blast cells secrete fibers and ground substance that create the unique matrix that the adult cells "float" in.
26
What part of conenctive tissue is non-living?
The Extra Cellular Matrix is non-living
27
What are the marcromolecules?
Four types of macromolecules: carbohydrates lipids proteins nucleic acids
28
Does epithelial tissue completely prevent anything from going through it?
No, it is selectively permeable. This helps it do its job.
29
What are the main components of nervous tissue?
There are two components of nervous tissue: neurons glial cells

31
What's the difference between endocrine glands and exocrine glands?
The different is where they secrete their products. Endocrine glands secrete inside the body. Excocrine glands secrete outside their bodies. (Both kinds are still epithelial tissue, however,)
32
Are epithelial cells polar?
Yes, they have an apical side and a basal side.
33
What does the suffix 'cyte' mean?
mature cell
34
How are stem cells differnt from progentior cells? From blast cells?
They are usually distinguished from progenitor cells, which cannot divide indefinitely... ...and precursor or blast cells, which are usually committed to differentiating into one cell type.
35
What are the blast cells for cartilage?
Chondroblasts.
36
What does the suffix 'blast' mean?
The cell is immature
37
What shapes do epithelial cells come in?
Epithelial cell shapes: squamous columnar cuboidal
38
what is the most abudnant and diverse tissue type?
connecdtive tissue
