Flashcards in Block 2 - Lab 7 Posterior Arm and Dorsal Hand Deck (16):

Which two veins originate from the dorsal venous arch?

Cephalic and basilic

Which tendon does the dorsal venous arch appear to lie directly deep to?

Middle finger extensor digitorum attachment

What thickening of antebrachial fascia lies superficial to six separate tunnels for extensor and abductor tendons?

Extensor retinaculum

What are the 6 superficial muscles of the posterior forearm from most lateral to most medial?

Extensor carpi radialis longus
Extensor carpi radilais brevis
Extensor digitorum
Extensor digiti minimi
Extensor carpi ulnaris

Which 4 superficial extensor muscles share a common tendon origin? What is the name of the tendon?

Extensor carpi radialis brevis
Extensor digitorum
Extensor digiti minimi
Extensor carpi ulnaris

What are the 5 deep muscles of the deep posterior arm compartment?

Abductor pollicis longus
Extensor pollicis brevis
Extensor pollicis longus
Extensor indicis

Which 4 deep extensor muscles originate in a line? On what and where?

Abductor pollicus longus (APL)
Extensor pollicus longus (EPL)
Extensor indicis (EI)
On ulna, from most proximal to most distal origination

Which nerve enters the supinator muscle? How?

The deep radial nerve, proximally

What two neurovasculature components are in the posterior compartment of the forearm?

Posterior Interosseous nerve - the termination of deep radial nerve as it exits the supinator distally
Posterior Interosseous artery - Runs with posterior interosseous nerve

What are the boundaries of the anatomical snuff box?

Tendon of extensor pollicis brevis (anteriorly)
Tendon of abductor pollicis longus (indirectly anterior)
Tendon of extensor pollicis longus (posteriorly)

What artery could you feel a pulse from in the anatomical snuffbox? Between which two tendons?

The radial artery between extensor pollicus brevis and extensor pollicus longus

What are the three components of the floor of the anatomical snuffbox? Which is the easiest to palpate?

1st (thumb) Metacarpal, trapezium, and scaphoid.

What vein should pass over the anatomical snuffbox?

Cephalic vein

Which dorsal interosseus muscle is most prominent? Which two fingers does it have origins and insertions on?

1st dorsal interosseus muscle originating on thumb metacarpal and index metacarpal, inserting on lateral proximal aspect of index proximal phalynx

What do extensor expansions on the posterior finger allow for?

Extension of DIP and PIP extension and MP flexion of each digit (besides thumb)

What do the extensor carpi muscles insert on?

The radialis longus, radialis brevis, andulnaris insert of dorsal proximal head of metacarpals 2, 3, and 5 respectively
