Flashcards in Blood vessels Deck (22):
1

Tunica intima

SSE =endothilium.
Repels blood cells and platelets.
with damage secrete chemicals that attract platelets.
During inflammatory response, express cell adhesion molecules

2

Tunica Media

Smooth muscle.
vasomotion: dilation or constriction (by vasomotor chemicals or stimulation of vasomotor center.

3

Tunica Externa:

CT layer that often blends companion vessels and anchor surrounding organs. Contains vasa vasorum.

4

Elastic arteries

conducting arteries.
Increased elastic fiber throughout tunics for stretch and recoil. This maintains BP during ventricular diastole.

5

Muscular arteries

distributing arteries.
75% of wall is muscular. Most named arteries

6

Arteriol

Drains into capillary bed

7

Capillaries

Endothilium +basement membrane.

8

Continuous capillaries

complete cell layer with intracellular clefts

9

Fenestrated capillaries

complete but contain fenestrations for passage of small solutes,
absorption and filtration

10

Sinusoid capillaries

Allow large solute out. ex. bone marrow, liver and spleen , some endocrine glands

11

Precapillary sphincters

open: perfuse capillary bed.
Closed: flow from metarteriols to thoroughfare channels and bypass capillary bed.

12

Venule

smallest vein : no valves in TI

13

Small to medium vein

Valves in TI. low on smooth muscle, getting more CT in TE

14

Large vein:

Valves. more smooth muscle, thick TE

15

Simple circulatory route

heart > Arteries> arterioles> Capillary bed>venues>veins> heart

16

Arterial anastomoses

several arterioles converge and drain into one capillary bed

17

Venous Anastomoses

Capillary bed drain into several venules

18

Arteriovenous anastomosis

shunt. bypass capillary bed

19

Capillary exchange

allows for exchange of substances between blood and surrounding tissue. Diffusion, transcytosis, bulk flow

20

Diffusion

passive process. move from areas of high concentration to areas of low concentration

21

Transcytosis

endocytosis to bring in substances pass through cytoplasm and released by exocytosis on other side of cell

22

Build Flow

Hydrostatic pressure: pressure of fluid on membrane.
Osmotic Pressure (COP) pressue on H2O to move from hypotonic to hypertonic.

Arterial end HP>COP =filtration
Venous end HP
