Board Review- Ortho Flashcards
(23 cards)
Requirements for full shoulder elevation (6)
- Scapular stability
- Inferior glide of humerus
- ER of humerus
- Posterior rotation of clavicle
- ER of AC and scapular rotation
- Straightening of thoracic kyphosis
Grading of accessory joint motion
0-6 scale 0-ankylosis 1-considerable hypomobility 2- slight """ 3- NL 4- slight hypermobility 5- considerable """ 6- unstable
When is the annular ligament most taut?
Extreme pronation and supination
Which carpal bones articulate with the radius?
Just the scaphoid and the lunate
Thumb arthrokinematics
F<>E Concave on convex
Abd<>Add Convex on concave
Angle of inclination definition
Angle between femoral shaft and neck of femur
Normal angle of inclination (hip). What is called when angle is excessive? Too little?
NL is 115-125
125+ is coxa valga. <115 is vara.
Valga at hip causes varum at knee! Vice versa
What are the three ligaments of the hip?
Iliofemoral- taut ext & er
Ischiofemoral- taut c ext, er, & abd
Pubofemoral- taut ir, abd, & ext
Which knee ligament often gets destroyed when the ACL gets destroyed? And why?
The MCL because it runs in the same direction as the ACL
The screw home mechanism is:
In OPEN chain, ____ rotation of the _____.
In CLOSED chain, it is _____ rotation of the _____.
Open- ER of the tibia
Closed- IR of femur
AO joint is more involved in:
Flexion-extension
OR
Rotation
Flexion and extension
At what level does the spinal cord terminate?
L1-L2
Lumbar rules for rotation and SB
In flexion, rot and SB in same direction
In extension they go in the opposite directions
Medial epicondylitis is aka
_________ _________
Golfers elbow
Lateral epicondylitis is aka ____ _______
Tennis elbow
Describe Patrick’s Faber test and what it tests for
Patient lie supine. Passively flex, abduct, and externally rotate the testing legs so that the foot is resting just above the knee on the opposite leg. Slowly lower the testing lay down towards the table. It’s positive when the involved knee is on unable to assume relaxed position and/or pay
What are the two points that you measure from to determine leg length?
ASIS to lateral malleolus
Foot supination is made up of which three motions?
SIPAD
Supination= inv, pf, add
Foot pronation is a combination of which three movements?
PEDAB
pronation= eversion, Dorsiflexion, and abd
What is a hill-sachs lesion?
Compression fracture of posterior humeral head. Often associated with forceful dislocation
What is a bankart lesion? What structure is also typically damaged during a Bankart lesion?
A tear of the labrum below the middle of the glenoid socket. these usually involve the inferior glenohumeral ligament as well
What is the glenohumeral capsular pattern?
External rotation, abduction, medial rotation
Which motion mainly occurs at C0-C1 or OA joint?
Flexion extension
Nodding
