C4, Chemical Calculations. Flashcards
What is the equation for Formula Mass?
Formula Mass = The relative atomic mass of all the atoms in the formula.
What is Avogadro’s Constant?
6.02 x10 23 atoms, ions or molecules in a substance.
What is the Calculation for Moles?
Moles = Mass / Formula Mass.
What is the definition of Theoretical Yield?
The mass of a product you expect to be produced in a chemical reaction.
Why is it sometimes not possible to obtain the Theoretical Yield?
Unexpected Side effects of reaction, Some of the product lost when separated from mixture and reaction reversible.
What is the Yield of a Product?
The Yield is the amount of product you get in a chemical reaction.
What is the Calculation for Percentage Yield?
Percentage Yield = ( Actual Yield / Theoretical Yield ) x100.
What is the definition of Atom Economy?
It is the efficiency of a chemical reaction.
What is a High Atom Economy?
More sustainable, fewer atoms are being wasted in products that aren’t useful.
What is the Calculation for Atom Economy?
Atom Economy = ( RFM of useful products / RFM of all products ) x100.
If you are asked to balance an equation what are the steps to do so?
Work out the RFM of all products, find the moles of each substance, convert to whole number ratio and balance.
What is the Definition of Concentration?
Concentration is the amount of solute in a volume of solvent.
What is the Chemical Calculation for Concentration?
Concentration = Mass / Volume.
What is High and Low Concentration?
Lots of solute in little solution or little solute in in lots of solution = High or Low Concentration.
What is the Calculation for Moles of a gas in Dm Cubed?
Moles of gas = volume / 24.
