Cell Structure Flashcards
(4 cards)
1
Q
What is the basic unit of life?
A
the cell
it is the smallest thing that can still be considered alive
2
Q
What are the two general types of cells?
A
Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic
3
Q
What are Prokaryotic Cells?
A
These are the more primitive type. They are smaller and simpler with fewer parts. They have no membrane-bound organelles and their DNA is contained in single (usually circular) chromosome. Bacteria have prokaryotic cells.
4
Q
What are Eukaryotic Cells
A
All organisms other than bacteria have eukaryotic cells. They are much larger and more complex than prokaryotic cells, with membrane-bound organelles and a true nucleus containing the chromosomes and DNA.
