Fibroblasts(fibrocyte when inactive)

Produce collagen and ground substances. Can differentiate into different types of cells ie cartilage, bone etc

1

Osteocytes

Bones cells maintaining bone as living tissue

2

Osteoblasts

Bone cells depositing osseous tissue

3

Osteoclasts

Bone cells destroying osseous tissue

4

Chondrocytes.

Produce and maintain cartilaginous matrix

5

Macrophages

Sanitary and immune functions.

6

Reticular cells

Produce reticular fibres in lymphatic nodes and organs

7

Collagen

Provision and maintenance of physical support for ECM. Flexible with high tensile strength.
Reticular fibres- provide internal scaffolding.
Elastic fibres-in elastic ligaments (flavum, nuche etc) and elastic arteries (aorta, femoral etc)

8

Connective tissues

Bone
Cartilage
Fibrous -dense
Ligaments - bone to bone
Tendons - muscle to bone
- loose - adipose fat storage
- areolar - connects epithelium to underlying tissue, surrounds, cushions and protects body organs.
- reticular - internal framework of organs.
-Liquid-blood, lymph-carry gases and nutrients throughout the body.

9

Tissues

Epithelial regenerates well
Connective regenerates ok
Muscle doesn't regenerate well
Nervous not at all
