A

Restless movements. Inability to remain still

A

shuffling gait, masked like face, drooling, tremor, stiffness

Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome

A

May be a fatal side effect of antipsychotic meds. Muscle rigidity, high fever, increased muscle enzymes and leukocytosis

Med that may cause Agranulocytosis

A

Clozapine. Failure of bone marrow to produce WBC. Fever, malaise, sore throat, and leukopenia.

What are Extrapyramidal Side Effects

A

Pseudoparkinsonism, Dystonia, Akathisia

Positive S/S of Schizophrenia

A

Delusion, Hallucination, Disorganized thinking or speech

Negative S/S of Schizophrenia

A

flat affect, lack of volition (no desire to do something), social withdrawal, or discomfort.

Dx of Schizophrenia

A

At least two or more of the positive symptoms for 1 month period
May have negative symptoms as well

Anticholinergic Side effects

A

Blurred vision, urinary difficulty, dry mouth, constipation

Dopamin Blocking Side effects

A

Extrapyramidal symptoms, Akinesia, Increased protectin

Alpha 1 Antagonism side effect

A

Orthostatic hypotension, Ejaculation failure

Atypical Antipsychotics and their side effects

A

Risperidone - Can raise prolactin level
Ziprasidone - Cardiac side effects
Olanzapine - Wt gain
Quetiapine - Wt gain, dizziness
Clozapine - Agranulacytosis, needs weekly WBC
Aripiprazole - stabilizes dopamin as opposed to blocking it

A

Haloperidol - EPS, TD, and Akathesia
Fluphenazine - similar to haloperidol
Chlorpromazine - orthostatic hypotension
