Flashcards in CH 2 Deck (14):
The proportion (or percent) of observations within a category. Divide the frequency by the sum of all of the frequencies
Take a sample of data and then apply it to the population.
Organizing and summarizing data
The frequency of each value of the variable is evenly spread out across the values of the variable
The highest frequency occurs in the middle and frequencies tail off to the left and right of the middle so the graph looks like the profile of a bell.
The tail to the right of the peak is longer than the tail to the left of the peak.
The tail to the left of the peak is longer than the tail to the right of the peak
Determine the class width
The width is equal to the width of each bar on the histogram.
- Range of values / class width
Determine percentage decrease
a - b / a
Determine percentage increase
when b = low number
The misery index
Sum of unemployment rate and the inflation rate
aka How many categories are there?
Lower class limit
= lowest value in class
