IDEA
Enacted to reduce Medicare spending, create incentives for the development of managed care plans, increase enrollment in managed care plans, and limit fee-for-service payment and programs
Balanced Budget Act of 1997 (BBA)
Signed by President Reagan and changed the way in which health-care dollars were dispersed
Social Security Amendments
Time period from 1942 to 1960; physical medicine and rehabilitation departments were created to serve veterans with physical disabilities
Rehabilitation movement
Passed in 1986 as an amendment to the Education for All Handicapped Children Act, and extends the provisions to include children from 3 to 5 years of age and initiated early intervention services for children from birth to 3 years of age
