What does the endocrine system do?
communicates with hormones
What does the nervous system do?
communicates with electrical and chemical means
What do sense organs do?
receive info about changes and transmits cody messages
What are issue commands?
sends commands to muscles and glands
What are the two types of nervous systems?
central and peripheral
What is the central nervous system?
brain and spinal cord
What is the peripheral nervous system?
everything except brain and spinal chord
What do afferent neurons do?
conduct signals towards CNS
What do motor efferent neurons do?
send signals out to muscles and gland cells
What is sympathetic division?
arouses the body for action
What is parasympathetic division?
calms down the body
What is the soma of a neuron?
the control center of the neuron
What is the dendrite of the neuron?
branches coming off of the soma
What is the axon?
nerve fiber that travels away from the soma
Whats a multipolar neuron?
one axon and multiple dendrites
What is a bipolar neuron?
one axon and one dendrite
What is a unipolar neuron?
single process away from soma
What is an anaxonic neuron?
many dendrites but no axon

one trillion

What are oligodendrocytes?
form myelin sheaths
What are ependymal cells?
line the cavities of the brain
What are the for types of neuroglia?
microglia, astrocytes, schwann cells, and satellite cells
What is the myelin sheath?
insulating layer around nerve fiber
