Flashcards in Chapter 17 Deck (13):
0

Shock develops as a consequence of one of the three events

Blood volume decreases
The heart fails as an effective pump
Peripheral blood blood vessels massively dilate

1

What is the most common type of shock

Hypovolemic shock

2

Extracellular fluid is significantly diminished , because reduced blood plasma , it also can be caused from significant fluid loss, such as burns , large drainage burns reduce fluid intake

Hypovolemic shock

3

The amount of fluid in the circulatory system is not reduced, yet the fluid circulation does not permit effective tissue perfusion

Disruptive shock

4

Is the rarest type of shock that insult to the vasomotor center in the medulla of the brain or to the peripheral nerves that extend from the spinal cord to the blood vessels.

Neurogenic shock

5

Also called toxic shock has the highest mortality rate. Associated rate with overwhelming bacterial infection

Septic shock

6

Harmful chemicals release by the bacterial cells that are probably the major cause of septic shock

Endotoxins

7

Is caused by a severe allergic reaction that follows exposure to a substance to which a person is extreme sensitivity

Anaphylactic shock

8

Drugs with alpha adrenergic activity increase peripheral vascular resistance and raise

Vasopressers

9

What would you assess for In cardiogenic shock

Auscultation of chest for abnormal lung and heart sounds

10

What would you asses for in hypovolemic shock

Lab test low rbc and hemoglobin

11

What would you asses for in septic shock

Elevated serum Lactate levels suggest lactic precipitated by sepsis

12

What medication can raise bp, increase heart rate, and promotes blood circulation

Vassopressers or inotropics
