Flashcards in Chapter 2 Book 2 Deck (21):
1

Virus

A virus is a tiny, non living partial that enters and then reproduces inside of a living cell.

2

Host

A host is an organism that provides a source of energy for a virus or another organism.

3

Parasite

A virus acts like parasite ore an organism that loves on or in a host and causes it harm.

4

Bacteria

If Leeuwenhoek had owned a modern high powered microscope, he would have seen that the single celled organisms were bacteria.

5

Flagellum

a bacteria cell may also hav a flagellum, a long whiplike structure that helps a cell move.

6

Cellular respiration

The process of breaking down food to release energy is called cellular respiration.

7

Binary fission

Bacteria sometimes reproduce asexually by the process called binary fission.

8

Conjunction

Sometimes bacteria reproduction sexually by a process called conjunction.

9

Endospore

An endospore is a small rounded, thick walls resting cell that forums inside of bacteria cells.

10

Pasteurization

During pasteurization, the food is heated to a temperature that is high enough to kill most harmful bacteria without changing the taste of the food.

11

Decomposers

Some bacteria that live in soil are decomposes or organisms that break down large complex chemicals in dead organisms into small, simple organisms.

12

Protist

Protist are eukaryotes that cannot be classified as animals, plants, or fungi.

13

Protozoa

Unlike animals, animal like protist or Protozoa are unicellular

14

Pseudopods

Sarcodines move and feed by forming pseudopods , temporary builders of the cell.

15

Contractile vacuole

But amoebas have a contractile vacuole a structure that collects water and except excess water from the cell.

16

Cilia

Ciliates have. Structure called cilia.

17

fungi

Most Fungi share several important characteristics

18

Hyphae

Excepto for the simplistas , such as unicellular, yeasts, the cell of most fungi are arranged in structures called hyphae.

19

Fruiting bodies

Fungi produce spores in a reproductive structures called fruiting bodies.

20

Budding

Unicellular yeasts cells undergo from of asexual reproduction called budding .

21

Lichen

A lichen consista of a fungus and eat her algae or autotrophic bacteria that live together in a relationship that benefits both organisms.
