Chapter 4 Flashcards
What is Osmosis?
Osmosis- the diffusion of water through a semipermeable membrane.
What is diffusion?
Diffusion- the movement of particles from regions of higher density.
How does Passive Transport work?
Passive Transport- the movement of substances across a cell membrane without energy.
What does Active Transport do?
Active Transport- moves substances across membrane with the use of energy.
What is Endocytosis?
cell membrane encloses a vesicles to bring the particle into the cell.
What is Exocytosis?
Process a cell releases having vesicles move to the cell surface with the cell membrane.
Photosynthesis, what is it?
Photosynthesis- process which plants, algae, and some bacteria.
What is Cellular Respiration?
Cellular Respiration- process which cells use oxygen to produce energy from food.
What does Fermentation do?
Fermentation- The breakdown of food without the use of oxygen.
What is a cell cycle?
Cell Cycle- the life cycle of a cell
What is a chromosome?
Chromosome- one of the structures in the nucleus that are made up of DNA
What is a Homologous chromosomes?
Homologous Chromosomes- chromosomes that have same sequence of genes.
What does mitosis do?
Mitosis- a process of cell division that forms two new nuclei.
What is Cytokines?
Cytokines- the division of the cytoplasm of a cell
What is ATP?
Compound occurs in living tissue and is a major source of energy.
