Chapter 5 Flashcards
(11 cards)
What is dosage compensation?
Random x inactivation. X chromosome condenses into a barr body to reduce X linked proteins
Multiple alleles-
More than 2 alleles per locus (EG blood types, can be IAIB, IAia, etc)
Gene interaction
Genes at more than one loci determine phenotype
Recessive epistasis F2 ratio
9:3:4 F2 ratio
Dominant epistasis F2 ratio
12:3:1 F2 ratio
Duplicate recessive epistasis F2 ratio
9:7 F2 ratio
What is dominant epistasis?
1 dominant allele maks the effects of another one
What happens in duplicate recessive epistasis?
Series of rxns where A turns into B, then dominant allele turns B into C
What do you do to assess probability?
Add all terms together, keep in mind degrees of freedom=n-1
Heterozygous females are ____ for x linked traits
Mosaics
Why aren’t X females normla?
Barr body still goes through gene expression to an extent (some proteins still produced)
