Flashcards in Chapter 7 Deck (9):
1

Stages of cellular respiration

Glycolysis
Kreb's Cycle
Electron Transport Chain

2

Glycolysis details (location, starts, ends, oxygen? and # of ATPs)

Location: Cytoplasm
Starts with: Glucose
Ends with: 2 pyruvic acid
Oxygen needed?: No
ATPs produced: 2

3

Kreb's Cycle and ETC details (location, starts, ends, oxygen? and # of ATPs)

Location: Mitochondria
Starts with: 2 pyretic acid, & O2
Ends with: Water, CO2, ATP
Oxygen needed?: Yes
ATPs produced: 34

4

Products of cellular respiration

6 CO2
6 H2O
36 ATP

5

After glycolysis, what happens if O2 not present?

Fermentation!
- Animal muscle cells: pyruvic acid builds up and converts to lactic acid
- Other cells: pyruvic acid builds up, ferments, and becomes alcohol

6

Cellular Respiration Equation

C6H12O6 + 6O2 ----> 6CO2 + 6 H2O + 36 ATP

7

Two electron carriers in cellular respiration?

NADH and FADH2

8

Where is the energy stored in ATP?

In the bonds of the final Pi group

9

What is pyruvic?

It's the product of glycolysis, 2 pyruvates
- If O2 is present, it's broken down into CO2 and (energy from breaking down pyruvates) ATP
- If O2 NOT present, it breaks down into LACTIC ACID in animal muscle cells, and ETHANOL AND ALCOHOL in other cells
