Chapter 8 Flashcards
(7 cards)
Restriction Enzymes
Restriction enzymes act like molecular scissors, cutting DNA a specific locations (recognition sites)
restriction fragment
The piece of DNA cut by restriction enzymes is called a restriction fragment
- Blunt ends
when cuts are made straight across the strand
Sticky Ends
when cuts are made in a zigzag
What is a PCR
A technique used to make a large number of copies of a DNA from one biological source in just a few hours
Gel Electro
-A method of separating large molecules (such as DNA, RNA and proteins)
-Separation of DNA fragments, through agarose gel, is based on their chemical and physical properties
Nanopore Sequencing
individual strands of DNA pass through tiny microscopic holes called nanopores
