if an organization uses their own hardware there’s limited storage but with cloud there is unlimited

the responsibility of backup and recovery sits with the cloud provider so no need for additional storage devices and data is backed up regularly

- the cloud makes file sharing available for organisations by using collaborative tools
- collaborative working, is where each user can make changes to files and documents this means there needs to be a process of sync. This means when someone makes a change everyone will see it on their version as well

- the facility to store data is very powerful high-capacity servers
- when users are working with their data files, automatic saving to the cloud takes place every few seconds which reduces the risk of losing data considerably
What does the term ‘cloud computing’ refer to?
Refers to ‘the cloud’ where a number of computing devices, including data storage and software applications, are offered and delivered on demand to an organisation using the internet.
In cloud computing, organisations access their data and programs over the internet instead of accessing their own hard drives locally.
What are 3 advantages of cloud computing?
-Cost effective: the cost of providing software maintenance and upgrades is cheaper than buying software liscneces for multiple users.
-Unlimited storage: using your own hardware device means that you are limited to its storage capacity eg a hard drive. In the cloud, unlimited storage is available.
-Software updates: the cloud provides organisations with automatic software updates which remove the need for an organisation to spend time manually scheduling and installing it themselves.
What are 3 disadvantages of cloud computing?
-Bandwidth limitations: some cloud providers only offer a limited bandwidth allowance. If an organisation uses more than their allowance the additional charges incurred can be very expensive.
-Security: A cloud provider will manage all hardware & software resources but cannot guarantee that all data will be totally secure eg recent credit card scandals.
-Technical issues: technical issues require customer support services which can be time consuming if the cloud provider is slow.

-Game developers can reduce costs because they don’t need to pay high street stores to sell their games.
-Larger global consumer base leads to increased sales and greater profits.
-Purchasing games online are typically cheaper.
-Purchased fames can be downloaded immediately
-The cloud can support complex visual effects and are able to access additional storage without the need to expand their computer’s processing power.
Describe the impact of cloud computing on file storage:
-Facilities to store data files on very powerful, high-capacity cloud servers.
-Reduced chance of data loss due to auto-save
-User files stored permanently without the need for a hard drive.
-Cloud providers can recover lost files in their server(s) crash and cab return to their original state.
-No need for users to understand technical processes involved in file recovery.
Impact of cloud computing on file sharing:
-Allows employees from an organisation to collaborate and shar folders and files internationally.
-Users can upload files to the cloud and share these with others who can edit the files themselves.
-Enabling employees form different parts of the world to collaborate as a team on the same project.
-Needs a process of synchronisation which update chnages made to other erosions.
-Maintains version history and sends automated email alerts to employees when there are amendments.
