Q

What are some exmaples of the transfer of energy betweem objects?

A

Thermal energy transfer: When you touch a hot stove, heat energy is transferred from the stove to your hand, causing you to feel the heat.

Electrical energy transfer: When you plug your phone into a charging adapter, electrical energy is transferred from the adapter to the phone battery, charging it.

Mechanical energy transfer: When you push a swing, you transfer mechanical energy to the swing, causing it to move.

Magnetic energy transfer: When you use a magnet to pick up a metal object, the magnet transfers magnetic energy to the metal, causing it to become magnetized.

Gravitational energy transfer: When you drop a ball, gravitational energy is transferred to the ball, causing it to fall to the ground.

Q

What is atmospheric pressure?

A

Layer of air that exerts pressure on us and all pressure of earth

Atmospheric pressure, also known as air pressure, is the force per unit area exerted on the Earth’s surface by the weight of the air above it.

Q

How does drinking straw make use of difference in air pressure to work?

A

When a boy sucks on a straw, some air is removed from it.the air pressure inside straw decreases and becomes lower than the surrounding atmospheric pressure. The higher atmospheric pressure pushes the liquid up the straw and into the boys’s mouth.

Q

Why does is a suction cup able to stick onto a surface?

A

When we press a suction cup hook against a smooth surface like a wall tile, air is pushed out from under the suction cup.

The air pressure between the suction cup and the surface decreases. It becomes lower than the atmospheric pressure. The higher atmospheric pressure holds the suction cup hook in place.

A suction cup is able to stick onto a surface because it creates a vacuum or a reduced air pressure inside the cup. The air pressure outside the cup then pushes the suction cup against the surface, creating a strong hold.

Q

When is work considered done?

A

When energy is transferred, work is done through the application of force.

Work is considered done when a force is applied to an object and the object moves in the direction of the force through a certain distance.
