Flashcards in Chapters 1,3,4,5,6 Deck (26):
1

Characteristics of human life pt1

Metabolism-ability chemical reactions within the body that break down substances & build them up.

Movment -

Responsivness- Bodies ability to adapt/ change inside or out

Growth-

Reproduction-

2

CHaracterisitics of human life pt 2

  • Digestion- Breakdown of food to simplair forms that can be absorbed

  • Absorption- Passage of substances through membranes into body fluids

  • Circulation- Movment of substances in body fluids
  • Assimilation-ability to change absorbed substances into chemically different form

  • Excertion- Removal of waste products

3

Anatomy

  • Branch of science that deals with the structure of the body parts and how they are organized

4

Physiology

FUnction of body parts "how they work"

5

Homeostasis

  • A state of balance EX- body temp is 98.6 f

6

Metabolism

  • Chemical reactions within the body that break down substances and build them up

7

Cell

The basic unit of a structure (living things)

8

Tissue

Any of the distinct types of material of which aniamls or plants are made.

9

Organ

Complex structures with specialized functions (heart)

10

Integumentary system

Skin & accessory organs (hair, nails, sweat glands)
Protect the under lying tissues
Helps to regulate body temp
Sensory receptors – take in information relay to the brain to regulate the body
Nerv sys sensory take info to
The brain 5 senses

11

Skeletal system

Consist of bones as well as ligamints cartliges that binds bone togethor

Structure- provide frameworks and protecile shields for softer tissues/ produce blood cells

12

Muscular system

By contracting and pulling their ends closer togethor, muscles provide forces that move body parts.

Structure- they also maintain postule and are the main source of body heat

13

Nervous system

  • Brain
  • Spinal cord
  • Nerves

structure- nerve cells within these organs communicate with each other and with muscles and glands use nerve impulses

14

Endocrine system:

Pupose/ function- Extremly complex and important.

Structure inludes glands that secrete hormones: are chemicals that alter metabolism.

15

Cardio vascular system

Purpose- INcludes the heart, arteries, veins and blood

the heart is a pump

the veins, arteries are a network of small structures that take blood away from and back to the heart and lungs

Blood carries nutrients, oxygen/ chemicals

16

Lymphatic system

Purpose- closley related to the cvs

part of year immune system

made up of

  • lympatic vessels
  • lymphatic fluid
  • lymph nodes
  • spleen
  • tonsils
  • Lymphocytes defend year body against disease, infections and viruses
  •

17

Digestive system

purpose- Breaks down food to a simpler form and excrete waste products.

  • Mouth teeth
  • salvia glands
  • pharynx/ esophagus
  • stomach
  • liver
  • gall bladder
  • pancreas
  • small and large intestine

18

Respiratary system upper/lower

purpose-

movment of air

exchange of grasses

  • nasal cavity
  • pharynx/larynx/trachea
  • lungs
  • bronchi

19

Urinary system

remove wastes

maintain bodys water/salt levels

  • kidneys
  • urinary bladder
  • urethra
  •

20

reproductive system

The process of producing offspring cells reproduce when they divide and give rise to new cells

of an organism produces whole new organisms like its self

21

Maintain life requirments 5

  • Water
  • food
  • oxygen
  • heat
  • pressure

22

Flexion

increase joint angle 180 degrees

23

Extansion

to decrease the joint angle/ opposite of flexion

24

Abduction

movment of segment away from the mid line

25

adduction

movment of segment toward midline

26
