Check List For Gait Flashcards
(9 cards)
Shoulders
Shoulders should tilt minimally in the frontal plane with contra lateral limb support
Transverse rotation of the trunk should occur with forward motion of the trunk over the hips
Head and neck
There should be limited motion in the frontal and Sagittal plane
Head should move as function of trunk
Trunk
Little motion of the trunk in any planes
Vertical trunk position
Arm swing
Variable - Should be symmetrical
Pelvis
Slight pelvic tilt during limb support
Forward tilt often occurs with increase speed
Knee and legs
At heel contact the knee should be extending from a flexed position
After heel contact knee flexes until foot flat
Ankle
At heel contact the ankle plantar flexes until the foot is flat then it dorsiflexes as the tibia moves over the foot in mid stance
During the propulsive period the ankle joint plantar flexes - reaching maximum at toe off
Foot
At heel strike the STJ is supinated and probated until the foot is flat
During this time the MPJ is inverted around the long axis.
From foot flat to toe off the STJ supinated the MTJ locks and the first ray plantar flexes providing a rigid propulsive lever
STJ during gait internal rotation and subsequent pronation are followed by:
A supinating twist of the forefoot to remain plantigrade
