TNT, M112, M1 Dynamite, 40lb Cratering charge
What is the make up of C-4?
90% RDX. 9% non-explosive plasticizer. 1% taggant
Ammonium Nitrate is extremely hygroscopic which means?
What are Comp B and B4 primarily used for?
used as filler in projectiles (mortars) and shaped charges.
Why is Ammonium Nitrate not suitable for cutting or breaching?
Low RE factor .42 (pushing).
What block explosive is best suited for irregulary shaped targets that you wish to cut and why?
C-4. It is moldable and has a good cutting RE factor. (RE 1.34)
What is the main explosive material in M112 C4?
How long is a roll of M186 sheet explosive and how much explosives does it provide per foot?
Roll : 50' 1/2 lb of explosive per foot. (.5 per ft)
What are the main purposes for using a 15lb M2A4 shaped demolition charge or 40lb M3A1 shaped demolition charge?
Boring/drilling holes in the earth, and metal targets.
What are the lengths that Det Cord is issued in?
100 FT, 500 FT, 1000 FT.
Det Cord has how many GRAINS per ft?
54 grains per ft.
How many amps and volts does it take to fire a M6 electric cap? How much resistance does it have?
1.5 amps/3 volts (to initiate) 2 ohms of resistance.
A CD450-4J can reliably fire how many caps in series?
70 caps M6 caps
Describe the packaging of M700 time fuse?
Dark green plastic cover. Yellow band at 12-18 inches. double yellow at 60-90 inches. issued in 50' coils.
What is the average burn rate of one foot of time fuse?
40 seconds. *(below 35 sec or above 45 sec the roll is bad)
What is the NEW of a roll of Det Cord?
12.8 lbs of PETN per 1000 FT
How many inches can moisture penetrate Det Cord and what actions should you take to prevent this from happening?
6" inches. Cut off 6" for hygroscopicty. Leave a 6" inch tail when making priming connections.
How many volts do you need to initiate an M6 electric blasting cap?
Whay are the explosive contents of an M7 non-electric balsting cap?
Ignition charge: Lead styphinate. Intermediate charge: Lead azide. Base charge: RDX, PETN or HMX.
With what explosive can you use an M1A4 priming adapter? An M8 blasting cap holder?
M1A4 can be used with M6 or M7 caps and can be threaded into TNT/shaped charges (explosives with threaded xap wells). M8 used with M6 or M7 caps by securing the cap to sheet explosives.
Explain the characteristics of a M2 cap crimper?
Priming well leg, flat tip screw driver leg, top teeth for crimping, bottom slot for cutting.
What are the only authorized uses of a demolitions multitool?
Use of the knife to cut shock tube and C4 punch to prime cap wells
Explain some of the main differences between the M60 and M81 igniters?
M60 only has adapter for M700 time fuse. M81 has adapter for shock tube and can be used with time fuse.
How many M6 caps can a CD450-4J reliably fire in series?
When using WD1/TT wire what should you consider?
Requires a greater power source if longer than 500 ft. Capability reduced by 10 caps per 1000 ft employed.
Should you use blasting caps underground?
What is the first step you take when conducting a continuity check?
How far away from energized power lines should you keep electric blasting caps?
When should you perform a 3 ft test burn on time fuse?
When you first open the time fuse and 24 hrs later.
What is the minimum safe distance for a charge that has a NEW less than 27 lbs?
For charges greater than 500lbs. How is the safe distance computed?
100 x cubed root of the NEW
How long should you wait to clear a non electric misfire? An electric misfire?
30 min: non-electric. Immediate: electric
Vehicles should be equipped with what type of fire extinguishers? How many?
2 Class B/C fire extinguishers
Where are blasting caps stored during transportation?
On another vehicle without bulk explosive. In the cab of truck in an approved ammuntion container.
What are the general rules of thumb for stacks in reference to the earth flooring and the cover of the magazine?
3" below and 18" above. non flammable, fire resistant, water proof overhead cover.
What are your rules for storage of explosives in a temporary magazine?
No mor than 500 lbs per pile. No less than 140 FT apart.
What items can be burned during destruction procedures? Detonated?
Burned: Packed or unpacked HE items (Linear, shape, block, stick demolitions, dynamite, det cord, firing devices, and time fuse. Detonated: initiating charge should be equivalent to or greater in potential than the explosives to be destroyed. Place charges every 4 - 5 ft.
Where should you place initiating charges on piles of explosives that you wantbto detonate during destruction procedures?
On top of the pile. (prevent kick outs)
Magazines are placed according to?
S-safety. A-accessibilty. D-dryness. D-drainage
1 1/4" dia x 8" L. 0.5 lbs RE = 0.92
