Flashcards in Chemical Analysis Deck (10):
What is a pure substance?
A pure substance is something that only contains one compound or element throughout.
What tells you how pure a substance is?
The boiling and the melting points.
What will a pure substance boil at?
A specific temperature.
What are formulations?
Formulations are mixtures with exact amounts of components.
What industries are they used in?
They are used in the pharmaceutical industry.
What are the phases of chromatography?
The mobile and the stationary phase.
What is the mobile phase?
This is where the molecules can move.
What is the stationary phase?
This is where the molecules can't move.
What is the equation for rf values?
Rf = distance travelled by substance/ distance travelled by solvent.
