CLASSIFICATION OF MICROORGANISMS Flashcards
What are the three domains of life?
1) Bacteria - prokaryotic, unicellular organisms with diverse metabolic pathways.
2) Archaea - prokaryotic organisms distinct from bacteria, often extremophiles.
3) Eukarya - eukaryotic organisms, including all multicellular life forms like plants, animals, fungi, etc.
What are the main types of cellular organisms?
1) Bacteria (Prokaryotic, unicellular with diverse metabolic pathways)
2) Archaea (Prokaryotic, unicellular but distinct from bacteria, often are extremophiles)
3) Eukarya (Eukaryotic, either uni- or multicellular, includes; plants, animals, fungi, protists)
What are acellular infectious agents?
These include viruses, viroids, and prions, which are not classified as living organisms and require a host to reproduce.
