Clutch Course Part 2 Flashcards
(13 cards)
What is a ferrule inspection?
Eaton clutch springs have a protective cap called a ferrule
If it has been removed from the cavity warranty is voided. Ferrule can not be removed and put back. When found melted clutch auto adjust is not operational. During any clutch inspection, service or write up we will inspect the ferrule.
What should be inspected during clutch brake inspection?
Inspect for inner race wear at contact point of input shaft. Inspect for facing wear on both sides. Friction material must be present. Inspect engagement tangs for damage.
What is the recommended fluid for the hydraulic clutch control system?
Approved fluid is DOT 4. Never mix different fluids. Fluid temperature range is -40 to 400 Deg°F.
What is the warning regarding lubrication on input shaft splines?
WARNING: Never add any lube, anti-seize or grease to input shaft splines to help assemble. Discs are designed to slide freely without lubrication. Lubrication will only allow dirt build-up which will inhibit the sliding function.
What is the purpose of a clutch brake?
Provides continuous energy when the energy source is discontinuous. Delivers energy at rates beyond the ability of a continuous energy source. Slippage occurs until friction disc and trans input shaft rotational speeds. Entire clutch assembly and trans input shaft are rotating at engine speed.
What is the function of a torque-limiting clutch brake?
Retarding and stopping rotation of the driven shaft of the clutch upon disengagement of the clutch. Not designed for upshifting. May be a disc type or a torque-limiting type. Transfers the movement of the clutch linkage to engage or disengage the clutch.
What are the steps for transmission removal?
Apply parking brakes, chock tires, put transmission into 1st or reverse gear. Disconnect batteries. Release air from system tanks. EYE PROTECTION. Remove air reservoirs (tanks). If removing valves use thread sealant when reinstalling.
What should be done during clutch removal from the flywheel?
If needed raise the front axle of the vehicle until you can remove the transmission by rolling it out behind the front tire. After lifting the front end of the vehicle, do not get under the vehicle until it is securely supported by vehicle stands. If the vehicle is supported only by an axle jack, the vehicle can
How should you secure the transmission to the jack?
Now secure the transmission to the jack with a chain.
Example sentence: After securing the transmission with a chain, proceed to adjust the support plate.
What should you adjust to the same angle as the transmission bottom?
Adjust the support plate to the same angle as the transmission bottom.
This step is crucial for proper transmission removal.
What is the first step for clutch removal from the flywheel?
Locate four 7/16 x 14 x 1 ¾ UNC hex head machine screws and install them in the 4 cover holes.
Hand tighten the screws one full turn before proceeding to the next step.
How should you install the Intermediate plate into slots on the clutch cover?
Install Intermediate plate into slots on the clutch cover.
Flywheel side must face the flywheel during installation.
What should you do before installing the clutch disc onto the aligning tool?
Insert clutch alignment tool through bearing.
Make sure to follow the orientation instructions on the disc during installation.
