What does the term “Cold War” refer to?
When there were high tensions between US and the USSR, and a struggle for world power

The US and the USSR
How did the Cold War start?
It started when both countries had weapons that they didn’t want to tell the other about
What was the Truman doctrine and what did it do?
It was a doctrine that stated that the US would help any country fight for freedom and liberty
What was containment?
It was when someone wanted to keep something or someone in the same place it was in, or smaller, not growing
What was being contained?
Communism
What did the Marshall plan do?
It gave millions to European countries to help rebuild after WWII.
How did the Marshall plan affect the countries?
They would hopefully be in favor of the West and their ideas and be against communism.

What was the purpose of the UN
To maintain peace and settle disputes
Was the us a part of the UN?
Yes
What was nato?
It was a pact that included US, Canada and 10 western European countries
What was the goal/ purpose of NATO?
To have collective security, if one was attacked, the others would fight with them.
What was the Warsaw Pact?
It was a pact of Eastern European countries who also wanted collective security. If one was attacked, all would help
What was the Berlin airlift?
The US airlifted food and supplies to the people of West Berlin to help them.
